Fourth of July is always one of my favorite days. There was this one summer…way back..was it 1996? ’98? Lying on a beach in Northern Michigan…feeling the cool sand and the warm summer breeze… watching the sky explode with color. I feel like every Fourth is fun in it’s own way, but for many years I’ve felt that I’m always chasing after that one perfect Fourth of July.
Until July 4, 2014. And July 5th, 6th, 7th… There is only one thing better than fireworks on the Fourth: having family gather round from near and far to camp together. Camping always seems to make the best memories. Maybe it’s the mandatory sharing of tents (or campers), staying up until 6:15am (looking at you Slucter sisters!), sipping on drinks all day long, having fireside conversations sweetened by toasted marshmallow fluff. I could go on, and on.
This year, the occasion for Fourth of July camping was a wedding. My cousin Erin got married at a beautiful campground in southwest Michigan. It was an incredible celebration of two very beautiful people and their families. It gave us a reason to have a weekend together that we’ll never forget.
